All About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality, which can assist healing on a physical, mental and spiritual level. This allows the body to enhance and accelerate its own innate healing ability. Reiki practitioners are attuned to access the universal life energy, allowing it to flow through the body using a series of hand positions (either directly on you, or just a few inches above your body). Your body will take the energy it needs, and use it where it needs it most.

What can Reiki do for you? Reiki is used to support physical, emotional and spiritual healing. We can manifest disease and other physical problems through un-released emotion or trauma. Reiki can assist with the releasing and healing of these emotions or traumas, and is the perfect compliment to traditional medicine or other non-traditional therapies. Reiki is also used for stress reduction, relaxation and to improve overall health and wellness.

Get help for issues like:
  • stress & anxiety

  • relaxation & insomnia

  • increasing the vibrational frequency of your body

  • supporting the immune system

  • addictions

  • grief & fear

  • recovery from an illness, injury, surgery

  • may help with chronic problems

  • relieving pain

  • connecting the mind-body-spirit

  • removing energy blockages – adjusts the energy flow – bringing the body into balance and harmony

Reiki can be used in tandem with traditional medicine to assist in the healing of serious diseases. Reiki will cause no harm and only works to benefit both the giver, and the receiver.

Animals love Reiki almost as much as people do, and they can also manifest disease through un-released emotion or trauma. A pet that is strongly bonded with their human can often manifest their person’s disease or emotions as well.

Many animals – especially cats – are more than happy to accept Reiki when they are healthy, and when they are sick, it will help calm them and help them heal faster. Reiki can help your pet with all the same things it can help us humans with and it can also assist them through life transitions, such as passing.

What to Expect – Treatments for People

A Reiki session is provided to a fully clothed recipient who is either lying on a treatment table or sitting comfortably in a chair. Clients will be required to fill out a form regarding specific needs or health conditions, as well as for their consent to light touch. The session will start with a brief discussion between the Reiki practitioner (myself) and client (you!). You might discuss what issues you are currently experiencing (this is completely up to each client and not necessary) and select an essential oil or oil blend for aromatherapy during your session. If there are no questions the treatment will begin. Reiki sessions last approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours, depending on each individual session. I have an in-home studio along with the ability to come to you (within the City of Calgary).

Because each client is unique the techniques used in each session may vary to suit your individual needs. A guided meditation or breath-work may be used to bring you into relaxation as I start by using a pendulum to gauge the status of each Chakra. Once the areas that require energy have been identified I will use sacred symbols and hand positions to stimulate the flow of universal life energy to you. The length of time my hands may stay in one position varies depending on your needs, but on average, 2 to 5 minutes. You may be asked to turn and lie on your stomach for work on the energy centers and organs in the back.

At the end of your treatment I will give you a few minutes to open your eyes, sit up and become re-acquainted with your physical body. If you are not feeling grounded, some simple exercises can be completed before you leave your treatment. It is important to drink water and be mindful of any cleansing symptoms. Reiki healing can last anywhere from 3-10 days and its effects can be felt almost immediately. I will discuss the treatment and am available for follow up questions or concerns. In order to benefit from the long-term effects, it is recommended that you receive Reiki regularly in addition to any pre-existing medical or holistic treatments you may be receiving.

Treatments often take approximately one hour, but can sometimes run a bit longer. Please allow yourself at least an hour-and-a-half for a Reiki treatment to ensure you are not rushing later on.

What to Expect – Treatments for Animals

Reiki sessions for animals always take place in their home, be it your house or their pasture or barn. The utmost importance is placed on every animals safety, well-being and comfort.

The beginning of every animal session starts with a discussion between myself and the pet guardian to get a better understanding of what is going on with the animal. In the event that there are serious behaviour concerns, you might be asked to fill out a behaviour questionnaire before the session and be provided with specific instructions for when I visits you and your pet.

Depending on each animal's unique needs, I will spend a few minutes getting to know the animal and assessing how receptive they may or may not be to different styles of treatment. The Reiki energy should always be offered to the animal and never forced on the animal. Most animals are happy to receive Reiki energy on their terms, but because they are so much more perceptive than humans are, treatment times can vary greatly. Animal Reiki sessions are booked in one hour increments to allow for the process to take place naturally, but often the animal will only accept the Reiki energy from 15 to 45 minutes or anything in between.

If you are looking for alternative healing modalities to help you or your pet, Reiki might be exactly what you are looking for. I invite you to try it. You may be surprised at the results.

Reiki is not intended to replace traditional medical or veterinary care. It is recommended that you see a licensed veterinary or health care provider for any physical or psychological ailment you or your pet may have.
