This is one of my most popular products and it is a great multi-use product. It's amazing for any dry skin, but I market it as a foot butter because our feet are usually the worst. I have suffered from dry skin my entire life, but moving to Calgary was practically the death of my skin. Then, my boyfriend had a really bad winter and his heels cracked so bad it actually hurt for him to walk, so I made came up with this recipe for him. Within a couple of months of daily use, you could hardly tell there were painful cracks.
Anyway, let's talk about some of the fabulous ingredients in the Foot Butter.
First, we have beeswax. It's literally the glue that holds everything together. Most people understand that it's used as a thickener in most natural products, but do you know how amazing this stuff is on it's own? Beeswax creates a breathable barrier on your skin (unlike petroleum products that suffocate your skin) that helps keep the moisture in, but it also prevents environmental irritants and contaminants. Beeswax contains vitamin A, which is amazing for your skin AND it's anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral. Sadly, the beeswax makes most of my products not vegan friendly, but until I can find a vegan solution that provides the same benefits, I'll be sticking with beeswax.
Next up is coconut oil. Yeah, everyone knows about coconut oil, but if you don't, this is why I'm using it. It also has antibacterial and anti fungal properties, it's an excellent moisturizer for your skin, usually absorbing pretty easily and contains vitamin E and tons of fatty acids.
Then comes the cocoa butter. It smells divine! But it is also full of antioxidants, which helps fight free radical damage and is an anti-inflammatory, both of these will help make your skin look and feel much, much better. Some people say that it helps with scars and stretchmarks, but don't quote me on that. I can tell you though, that cocoa butter is full of fatty acids which really help hydrate your skin. I do use unrefined cocoa butter to make sure that all the good stuff stays in the product, so that's why it smells delicious. Please don't eat it.
Finally, we have two fabulous essential oils in a low dilution ratio, making this product safe for the whole family. Frankincense has been known to support healthy cellular function, increase blood flow and circulation and reduce inflammation. Wild orange essential oil also has antibacterial properties, assists with immune function and can increase circulation. It's scent is incredibly uplifting and adds a nice little pick-me-up to the bar.
Like I said previously, this is a great multi-use product, so even though the label says "Foot Butter", you can use it on any dry skin.
Note: orange essential oil can make your skin photosensitive, so watching sun exposure (or tanning bed use) after application is recommended. The amount used in this product is quite minimal, but I still have to let you know!
