Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye (Brow) Chakra or Ajna, is known as our control centre. It’s focus is to nourish and grow a strong and independent mind. It enables the recognition of “being” and connects us to the part of creation which is beyond science and physical planes. It is also known as the chakra of knowing of spiritual matters and it passes this knowledge down through all the other chakras to influence all parts of ourselves.

When this chakra is fully activated, it stimulates both sides of our brains. When both hemispheres are working together they can create a harmonious vision of reality that combines logical thinking and imaginative experience. When this chakra is in harmony, we invite intuition and inner awareness into our everyday life and we are connected to the universe. When it is out of balance we will reject spiritual things and only focus on science and intellect and we are afraid of our intuition.

Our Third Eye Chakra can open us to the good in, and around us, helping us acknowledge that we are whole, deserving of love and everything we say we want. It will also help us expand ourselves to new possibilities and lets us see the “light at the end of the tunnel” when we are lacking faith. The Third Eye also controls our emotional responses. If something triggers an emotion, this chakra will help us decide how we need to respond. With practice, if we allow our selves to feel these emotions, they will be felt and then dissipate – released to the Universe. If we suppress emotions, they will not be released and will become energy blocks.

It is important to develop realistic attitudes that support ourselves into being the best that we can be. We must learn to forgive our past, build a wholesome context of who we are and positively looking forward into the future. Healing our mind and the Third Eye means reflection and transforming self-limiting ideas and behaviours that inhibit who we are and who we want or deserve to be. Healthy attitudes based on love, self respect and respect of others will help us build up our Third Eye Chakras.

So, how do you work with your Third Eye Chakra? Physical activities to strengthen or develop your Third Eye Chakra are yoga,  tai chi, qi gong and Bates eye exercises. Some spiritual activities good for this chakra are thinking clearly about your life, reading uplifting, positive books or movies, reflection/contemplation, meditation and, my favourite, creative use of your imagination! Visualize the life you say you want, often.

Wearing indigo or purple and focusing on this chakra, imagining a light-filled wheel that is spinning slightly faster than your Throat Chakra will help you balance this chakra. Making use of gemstones or essential oils as mentioned in the

post will also help. Choose the appropriate gemstones or essential oils from the list above to help you focus on the Third Eye Chakra instead.

Mantras are amazing for working with your Third Eye Chakra and some good ones are: “I think the very best of my self in all situations.”, “I align my self with the source of all life.”, “I release and forgive the past.” or “I am wise, intuitive an aligned with my highest good.”

I do also think that meditations are really beneficial for this chakra as well. Meditation is great for us on so many levels, but it really teaches us how to quiet our minds. In this day-and-age, with so many electronics, such hectic schedules and general busyness, learning how to turn off the mind-clutter will really teach you and show you your true self. If you’ve never meditated before, I would highly recommend either finding a good guided meditation on the internet (like these) or finding a meditation group in your town/city. I know that sounds weird, but grab a friend for a “date-night” and check one out. You’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.

And o treatments will work on balancing all of your chakras.

Up next will be the Crown Chakra, which focuses on our spirituality and is the source of healing energy.
